Animated Chinese Painting at Stones Corner Street Party

EMERGING BRISBANE ANIMATORS LEAD LINE UP AT FESTIVAL Visual Monkies Studio will unveil a 4m x 1.5m painting with a difference at the Stones Corner Street Party on the 10th of June from 3:30pm until 9pm.

Inspired by the style of classical Chinese art, this piece is not your average painting. Created using animation software and digital painting techniques, the piece depicts the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals moving across the night sky. It took the team at VMS three months to complete and will be projected onto the wall of Fafali Gallery on Logan Road. VMS Managing Director Marianna Shek said they welcome the opportunity to showcase experimental animation in a community event.

‘Animation is a niche skill that sits between filmmaking and fine art. Traditionally animators exhibit at film festivals. But animators are also concept artists, illustrators and digital painters. Visual Monkies Studio are running 2 workshops as part of Youth Week on the 10th of April from 9 -4.
The first is a 3d animation workshop for kids 8 -12 years old to create their own short 3d animation film.
The second workshop is a cartooning workshop for kids 12- 17 called “East meets West’. Students will learn to design their own character in anime and western style.
